The number of employed workers in May in both Moffat and Rio Blanco decreased when compared to May 2015. Routt’s year-over-year employment for May has increased when compared to 2015, with its unemployment numbers decreasing for the same time period.

Industry and Wage

The Mining industry continues to remain in the top 3 of average weekly wages throughout the region. Accommodation and Food Service workers earned the least in all three counties during the fourth quarter of 2015. Total wages earned decreased slightly in both Rio Blanco and Routt counties when compared to Q4 2014 totals.

Real Estate

Median monthly rent continues to rise across the region. Routt experienced a 15.5% seasonal spike in the number of homes for sale in June. In all three counties, foreclosures were on the rise from the previous month of April, with Moffat foreclosures increasing by 119%.


Yamcolo and Stagecoach reservoirs were at 100+% capacity in June. Both the White and Yampa Rivers peaked on June 6, coming in at 110% and 134% of their 10-year average.


Northwest Colorado produced 81% of the state’s coal in April. However, annual totals for 2016 are 23 – 44% behind total production in April of 2015.

Oil & Gas

Compared to April 2015 extraction totals, Moffat, Rio Blanco and Routt experienced decreased oil and gas production in April 2016.  However, Moffat and Routt gas production did increase from the previous month.
